Rudolph D. Bescherer, Jr., DO
Emergency Medicine

Philosophy of Care: I see the Emergency Department as a sacred space, not necessarily a place for worship (although every now and then we do welcome new lives into the world!) It is more of a sacred space for service to others and to the community as a whole. I understand that quite a few of the people I have tried to heal over the past 20+ years are having one of the worst days of their lives if they need to see me. Many of my patients have had nowhere else to turn, particularly since most of my career has been as a full-time night shift emergency physician. I will do my best to do the right thing for my patient.

What drew you to work at OMC? My dream job, as a 16 year-old EMT student, was working at a small community hospital Emergency Department and doing flight medicine work. I prefer rural Emergency Medicine to large inner-city hospitals, and having lived in Wisconsin either part-time or for a couple years as my permanent residence, it's a nice place to be and to work. Osceola is nowhere near as rural as the beautiful community where I lived and worked in Alaska, but it's also a whole lot closer to my wife's practice.

Personal Interests: I have always been curious about a lot of things. I enjoy spending time with my wife and our four-pawed children. I have a small fleet of Freightliners that need care and feeding, so I tend to practice vehicular medicine and surgery when I'm not out exercising them. I have a pilot certificate in airplanes and helicopters, certification as a scuba instructor, and had previously owned my own mobile disc jockey and trucking business.

Fun Fact: In elementary school, I started playing the trumpet. I was never very good at the proper technique for breathing while playing that instrument, so I would pass out after playing a piece every now and then. When I gave up the trumpet for bagpipes, I stopped passing out.

Since we first opened our doors in 1932, OMC’s mission has remained the same: to inspire and improve the health and well-being of our community by combining quality "big city" healthcare with home-town customer service.
